Reps. Investigate Racketeering Allegations In Public Service

With incidents of Nigerians being forced to pay bribes in their desire to be employed into the country’s civil service becoming rampant, the House of Representatives decided to commence an investigation into the racketeering allegation in the recruitment process of the federal civil service.
A joint committee of the House of Representatives then commenced investigations into the allegations of racketeering, and investigations produced revelations and accusations.
The committee said this tendency to recruit using questionable criteria has led to a civil service that is inefficient and leaves a lot to be desired, a situation the lawmakers say must change.
One of the agencies that appeared before the committee admitted to just selecting those it employed for several years while others were accused of not obeying the civil service rules that guide recruitment into the service.
The joint commission also directed the Nigeria Immigration Service to refund job seekers the N1, 000 they were charged as recruitment fee and the commission is also expected to come up with critical recommendations that will help sanitize the recruitment process of the public service of the federation.
