25 persons have been confirmed dead and dozens injured after a stampede at an over one hundred thousand crowded All Night Vigil crusade at Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra state occured.
The state governor, who visited the scene of the incident alongside the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of zone 9, Philemon Leha, Assistant Inspector General of Police of C Department, Kachi Udeoji, and the state commissioner of police, Bala Nasarawa, vowed to unravel the cause of the incident adding that whoever is the brain behind the incident will not go unpunished.
The vigil was a special one, as November 1 was All Saints Day in the church calendar and that accounted for the over one hundred thousand faithful that gathered.
The governor, who attended the vigil with the governorship candidate, Willie Obiano, the National chairman of APGA, Victor Umeh and others had left at 3:30am shortly before the close of the service at 5:08am when the incident happened.
According to various accounts of the incident, the event was caused by the overcrowded church ground while others said shouts of fire outbreak threw confusion amongst the people who reacted and scampered for safety.
