Sokoto state government has held a mass wedding for 250 couples in the state.
The state government sponsored the marriages with over N30million.The marriages were contracted at the Government House mosque, Sokoto.
In an address at the occasion, Governor Aliyu Wamakko tasked the grooms to ensure they engaged in meaningful activities.
He stressed that they should neither indulge in begging nor idle away.
The governor explained that the state government decided to embark on the mass wedding programme to reduce the high number of unmarried youths in the state.
He advised the newly married couples to uphold the confidence reposed on them by the state government.
The governor noted that marriage, as a contract between a man and a woman, pointing out that it was a practice endorsed by Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
He also pointed out that the Holy Qur’an instructs Muslims to marry so as to reproduce.
