If you haven’t already upgraded to the BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1, here are 10 reasons why you should!
01 – Pinch to Filter in BlackBerry Hub
BlackBerry Hub supports a new pinch gesture that gives you fast access to your priority messages and more. To try it out, slide your fingers together while viewing the BlackBerry Hub; to go back to your complete message list, slide your fingers apart.
You can also customize what happens when you perform this gesture. For example, use this gesture to quickly access your unread messages, flagged messages, and more.
While viewing the BlackBerry Hub, tap 10Reasons-Icon-3dot in the lower-right corner.
Tap Settings followed by Display and Actions.
Tap Pinch Filter Criteria, and then select your desired option:
Priority Messages
Unread Messages
Flagged Messages
Draft Messages
Meeting Invites
Sent Messages
Level 1 Alerts
When finished, tap Back to save your changes.
02 – Delete On
A popular option from BlackBerry OS has been added, which is the ability to control how email messages are deleted on your device, and messaging server.
While viewing the BlackBerry Hub, tap 10Reasons-Icon-3dot in the lower-right corner.
Tap Settings , and then tap Display and Actions
Tap Delete On, and then select your desired option.

When finished, tap Back to save your changes.
03 – Contact Groups
Communicating with groups over email or text message just got easier since the ability to create contact groups was added to BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1.
To create a contact group, open the Contacts app, tap New Group, and then tap the contacts you want to include.
04 – Lock Screen Notifications
The next time you receive a notification while the screen on your device is locked, use the Lock Screen Notification feature to get a quick glance at who is trying to reach you. Not only does this allow you to view the sender and subject, tapping the item will show you a Tap to open option so you can quickly hop into whatever you just received, whether it be an email, BBM™, text message, and more.
05 – Per Contact Notifications
Notifications that you customize for contacts override notifications that you set for specific apps.
For example, if you turn sound on for phone notifications for a contact, but turn the sound off for the phone, the phone still rings when the contact calls you.
On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen.
Tap Settings, and then tap Notifications.
Tap Contacts, and then tap 10Reasons-Icon-NewContact Customize for Contact.
Select a contact and customize the following options:
Phones
Email messages
BBM
Text Messages
Other Messaging, which includes apps like FaceBook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and more.
Change the Tone, Vibrate, LED or Instant Preview settings.
Tap Back until the Contacts Notifications screen appears.
Contacts that have customized notifications will be listed on the Contacts Notifications screen.
To remove a contact’s customization, tap and hold the contact while you view the Contact Notifications screen, and then tap Remove Customization.
06 – Reply Now
With the Reply Now feature, you can send an incoming caller a brief message instead of answering their call. By default, if the caller is a BBM contact, the Reply Now message is sent as a BBM message. If the caller isn’t a BBM contact, the Reply Now message is sent as a text message.
When you receive an incoming call, tap 10Reasons-Icon-SMS or 10Reasons-Icon-BBM.
Do any of the following:
To send one of the default Reply Now messages, tap a message.
To compose a new message, tap Custom Message. Type a message, and then tap Send.
07 – Calendar Enhancements
Several new features have been added to the calendar including Cisco WebEx integration, which makes hosting meetings much easier!
Go To Date – Tap this the new icon that appears in the upper-right corner while viewing your calendar in day, week, or month view to quickly access a specific date.
Accept Only One Instance of a Recurrence – Easily accept a single instance instead of the recurring series.
Follow Up Meetings – Navigate to a post or future meeting, and with one click you can create a follow-up meeting prepopulated with details.
Cisco WebEx Integration – If WebEx is installed, when you schedule a meeting you can create a WebEx meeting at the same time. The attendees will get your meeting invite and the WebEx details in separate email messages.

08 – Quick Settings
With the release of BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1, you can choose which settings appear, as well as their positions, so that you can quickly get to the settings that are most important to you. Quickly put your BlackBerry device into airplane mode or bedside mode, turn off your alarm, or turn on the flashlight!
On the home screen, swipe down from the top of screen.
Tap Settings, and then tap Quick Settings.
To add or remove items from your quick settings, select or clear the check boxes.
To change the positions of items in your quick settings, tap 10Reasons-Icon-QuickSettings, and then drag the items to your desired order.
Tap Save.
Tip: If you have a lot of Quick Settings items, swipe right or left to see them all.
09 – Picture Password
Picture Password is a new method of securing your device that allows you to use a number combination (0 to 9) and picture to unlock your device instead of typing a password. When enabled, instead of unlocking your device using a password, a picture and a grid of random numbers appears on the home screen.
To unlock your device, tap anywhere on the screen and drag the number grid until your number is on top of a specific spot. To use this feature, check out our post on how to use Picture Password.
10 – Device Monitor
Device Monitor, first introduced in BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2, was updated with the release of BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1. New screens were added that allow you to view key details around battery usage so you can easily identify apps that have a negative impact on your battery life. For example, you can view battery consumption by application since the last time you charged your device, or by the last 12, 24, or 48 hours.
When you select an item from the Device Monitor list, you can view additional details such as CPU, memory, mobile network, and Wi-Fi® usage statistics. You can also view applications you installed, the amount of space those apps take up, and you can delete applications.
Tip: For fast access, add Device Monitor to the BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1 Quick Settings menu (Settings > Quick Settings).
