Delegate’s list: Afemai people protest replacement of Ozekhome’s name with Braimoh’s

 Chief Mike Ozekhome

THERE is tension in Edo North senatorial district of Edo State, due to what youths and elders of the area described as the mysterious removal of the name of the activists and lawyer,  Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN and its subsequent replacement  with that of Senator Yisa Braimoh as delegate for the national conference.
The Afemai people from the Edo North senatorial district, under the aegis of the Kukuruku Youth Renaissance Network in a statement by its President, Theophilus Ibodeme, expressed shock over the nomination of Braimoh, whom they alleged did not represent them well when he was in the senate.
Questioning the rationale behind picking Senator Braimoh, rather than Chief Ozekhome, the group expressed concern that the proposed conference had been politicized, as same may not produce the desired result at the end of the day.
It said “Senator Braimoh failed us as a senator and that was why he lost re-election. Besides, this conference is not a tea party or a jamboree, it is where we are to discuss issues affecting each ethnic group. We are aware that a Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP god father from the South South tactically removed Ozekhome’s name but that is unacceptable to us.
“We cannot be cowed to allow Senator Braimoh represent us because we have a very sound lawyer in the person of Chief Ozekhome to represent us. The inclusion of Braimoh’s name on the list is illegal. We want quality, credible and competent representation in the forthcoming national conference, a square peg in a square hole and not a man who did not represent us well.”
