Ekiti 2014: PDP makes U-Turn, withdraws Peter Obafemi’s clearance

The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has overturned the decision of the Muhammadu Magoro Ekiti appeal screening committee and withdrawn the provisional clearance given to Peter Obafemi, one of the three candidates, earlier disqualified by the party’s screening panel.
The screening panel headed by Ndoma Egba had on Monday disqualified Bode Olowoporoku, Peter Obafemi and a female aspirant, Bosede Dada.
The NWC said in a statement by its spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, on Thursday that it has decided to overturn the decision of its screening appeal panel.
“By this, Peter Obafemi is not eligible to participate in the primary to elect the candidate of the PDP for the Ekiti governorship election,” it said.
Mr. Metuh did not state the grounds upon which the NWC decided to overturn the decision of the screening appeal panel, but the screening committee had stated in its report that Mr. Obafemi was disqualified because he could not produce an NYSC discharge certificate.
Appeal Caretaker committee for Sokoto
In the same vein, the National Working Committee has approved the inauguration of a 16-member Caretaker Committee for Sokoto State with Abdullahi Muhammed as Chairman and Musa Gusau as secretary.
The inauguration of the committee, according to Mr. Metuh, will hold on March 14 at the PDP National Secretariat, Abuja at 9 a.m.
