Seattle Sounders striker Obafemi Martins ended his 373-minutes goal drought on Sunday as he converted a Clint Dempsey pass to give his side a 2-1 victory over hosts, Chivas USA in the MLS.

It was Martins’ second goal this season, and the victory put Sounder second in the Western Conference.

“I’m happy for the team,” Martins told The Seattle Times after the game. “We worked so hard to get the three points.”

Dempsey, who also provided the assist for Lamar Neagle for the first goal, praised the goal scorers, “We know our quality and if we do concede, we have players that can create chances and get goals and will fight to the end. We have a lot of character on this team.”

In Spain, Villarreal forward, Ikechukwu Uche, has been ruled out of Monday’s crucial La Liga clash against Malaga at La Rosaleda as the Nigerian continues to struggle with an adductor injury that has kept him out of action for the past four games, leaving manager Marcelino without the club’s top scorer.

Villarreal are fighting to maintain their qualifying place for the Europa League next season and while they will be without Uche with just five weeks remaining on the La Liga schedule, they will get back Mexican winger, Jonathan Dos Santos after having missed the last three games with injury.
