Reactions have continued to trail Monday’s demolition of over 100 houses and the displacement of hundreds of residents of Ojodu/Alagbole, Yakoyo and Ijoko in Ifo Local Government by the Ogun State Government to pave the way for the ongoing road expansion projects in the communities.
On Tuesday in Abeokuta, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, the Labour Party and a former Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr. Sina Kawonise, disagreed with the ruling All Progressives Congress over the demolition exercise.
While the PDP, LP and Kawonise condemned the demolition exercise, the APC argued that it was being done for the sake of developing the state in the interest of all the citizens.

The APC also argued that compensation was already being worked out for genuine property owners in the affected areas.
The state PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Waliu Oladipo, said the action of the APC-led government came to the opposition party as a “shock.”
He said, “This government is unconscionable. And like we have been saying our people were literally tricked into buying wares in the dark. How can a government whose primary responsibility should be the welfare of the people be inflicting untold hardship on them without any care? This is simply wicked and totally uncalled for.”

The LP state Secretary, Sunday Oginni, said the Amosun administration’s “penchant for stealing” had pushed it into destroying people’s property in order to make claims for the compensations it would never pay.
In the same vein, Kawonise said a situation, where the state government would always “put tears on the faces of the people” of the state in the name of executing development projects was not acceptable.
But the APC State Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sola Lawal accused the opposition parties and Kawonise of making “self-serving criticisms” of the Amosun administration’s programmes.
Lawal stressed that the Amosun government was only making efforts to carry out the imperative transformation which the previous administration shied away from.
