EFCC quizzes ex-gov Daniel

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday interrogated former Ogun State Governor, Gbengal Daniel, at the commission’s office in Lagos.

EFCC sources told our correspondent on Wednesday that the former governor was interrogated in relation to the pending charges instituted against him at an Ogun State High Court, in Abeokuta.
One of the sources said the interrogation, which was said to be  “routine” took place briefly on Wednesday morning.

The former governor was said to have been invited and interrogated by the investigators at the Economic and Governance Unit of the EFCC.

Daniel is currently facing 38 counts of stealing, fraudulent conversion of land as well as diversion of public funds during his tenure as governor.

However, unconfirmed sources said the former governor was interrogated over allegations that he converted to his personal use, import waivers obtained from the Federal Government.

Meanwhile Justice Olanrewaju Mabekoje of the Ogun State High Court had adjourned Daniel’s trial till February 6, 2014.
