The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally declared its support and readiness to work with the All Progressives Congress (APC), deepening reactions trailing the merger of the nPDP and the APC.
Announcing the decision to consolidate the merger in the state on Wednesday, the erstwhile chairman of the PDP in Kwara, Ishola Balogun Fulani, stated that the former PDP members would continue to be loyal to the APC leaders in the state.
Leaders and members of the PDP started arriving at the secretariat of the party in the state by exactly 10:00am local time, to listen to what the chairman summoned them for.
Barely an hour later, Fulani, broke what could be described as a bombshell, telling them that the entire members of the party would become members of the APC.
The development seemed to have met the expectations of the former PDP members, as they sang to the music provided by local musician. “We will follow you wherever you direct us,” the sang in their local dialect in excitement.
The former chairman of PDP, who addressed the members in Yoruba language, later told journalists that the rationale behind the action was that of solidarity.
The state is known for being loyal to its political leaders and this period is not be an exception, as leaders of the party from ward and local government have expressed their support for the decision of the leaders to join the APC.
He urged the members to exercise patience in changing the logo and paintings of the secretariat to that of the new party.
With the official merger of Kwara State’s PDP and APC, the state becomes an opposition to the ruling party, increasing the number of states governed by an APC member.
