The Forum discusses Excess Crude Account, Sovereign Wealth
Despite failed moves to resolve their disagreements, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, led by the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, has invited members of the breakaway group led by the Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, to a meeting slated for Wednesday in Abuja.
An invitation to the meeting, which will hold at 8 p.m. at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge, was extended to the 16 governors of the splinter group.
The governors believed to be in the group, apart from Mr. Jang, are Ibrahim Shema (Katsina), Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Theodore Orji (Abia), Martin Elechi (Ebonyi), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Peter Obi (Anambra), Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe), Mukhtar Yero (Kaduna), Idris Wada (Kogi), Garba Umar (Taraba), Saidu Dakingari (Kebbi), Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta), Isa Yuguda (Bauchi) and Sullivan Chime (Enugu).
Members of the Amaechi-led NGF are Musa Kwamkwaso (Kano), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo) and Babatunde Fashola (Lagos).
Others are Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Rauf Aregebsola (Osun), Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Ibrahim Geidam (Yobe), Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara), Rochas okorocha (Imo), Kashim Shetima (Borno).
According to the invitation, signed by the Director General of the Forum, Ashishana Okauru, the issues to be discussed include remembrance of the late governor of Kaduna State, Patrick Yakowa, who died in a plane crash on December 15 last year, report of the recent NGF retreat in Sokoto, land allocation in Abuja, pending litigations and inaugural speeches.
Other items on the agenda for discussion are report on the Federal Account Allocation Committee, FAAC, Excess Crude Account, ECA, Sovereign Wealth Fund, SWF, update on SPRM, polio Eradication, funding of NGF and its strategic plan for 2014 to 2016.
The invitation, however, said Mr. Amaechi, as the Chairman, would brief the meeting before discussions on the issues commence.
Wednesday’s meeting would be the first since Mr. Amaechi and four other Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governors defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, on November 26.
The others that defected were Messrs. Kwankwaso, Wamakko, Nyako and Ahmed.
The NGF split May 24 following some governors’ rejection of Mr. Amaechi’s emergence for a second term after beating his Plateau State counterpart, Mr. Jang, by 19 votes to 16.
Since the split, both groups had repeatedly shunned meetings organised by either side.
The Jang’s faction also boycotted the NGF’s retreat held in Sokoto in November.
At the last meeting held by the Amaechi-led NGF, its members demanded the resignation of the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, over the manner with which she was handling the economy.
During the retreat, it also alleged that about $5 billion (N791 billion) was missing from the ECA.
