TWO KINDS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
Matt 5:20 -----For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus here is able to point out two kinds of righteousness.
The righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees.
The righteousness that is acceptable to God.
Going through the four Gospels, despite the numerous virtues of righteousness, no single Pharisees encountered any miracle under JESUS MINISTRY when sinners, tax collectors, adulterous, republicans, gentiles etc. were receiving miracles rather He cursed the Scribes and Pharisees throughout.
Pharises are a sect among the Jews, Jesus referred to them severally as HYPOCRITES (Matt. 23:13-15, 23-29).
Pharisees for sure were regular in Church, very zealous, prayerful and they are givers. They were always in Jesus outreaches and crusades. What then kept them from miracles, signs and wonders?
One can adduce many reasons but will just mention only one here. The Pharisees have problem with their MOTIVE. They were doing the right thing with a wrong motive; seeking after the right thing with a wrong motive.
The essence of what Jesus was saying can be seen in His teaching in Mathew chapter six.
1. GIVING: Jesus said don’t do it like hypocrites (Pharisees), they give to be seen of men behold they have their rewards already. (Matt 6:1-4).
2. PRAYING: Don’t pray like the hypocrites (Pharisees) do, they love to pray to be seen of men (Matt 6:5-8).
3.
FASTING: Don’t do it like the hypocrites (Pharisees), they like to disfigure their faces so that men can notice and commend them (Matt 6:16-18)
Wrong motive did not allow the righteousness of the Pharisees to attract rewards.
Friends, Jesus is the connecting point to the righteousness of God that generates rewards (1Cor. 5:21). Stop the labour of a fool that leads to frustration; connect to your miracles today by right motives.
Your rewards is now in Jesus name.
