Man, 30, In Court For Allegedly Defrauding Wife Of N200,000

The police, on Thursday, arraigned a 30-year-old hair stylist, Isiaka Safiu, of Ginna Village Aso `B’, Nasarawa State, in a Grade 1 Area Court in Mararaba, for defrauding his wife of N200,000.

The prosecutor, PC Friday Adaji, told the court that the accused collected the money from his wife, Abibatu, with a promise to build a one-bedroom flat for her at the said village.

Adaji revealed to the court that after building the house, the accused sold it without his wife’s consent, took the money and abandoned his wife and two children.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 322 of the Penal Code, but the accused pled not guilty.

If convicted, the accused is liable to three years imprisonment or fine or both.

The presiding officer, Mr Albert Maga, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Maga ordered that one of the sureties must be a traditional ruler, who lives within the court’s jurisdiction and also ordered that the surety must present two passport-sized photographs and a National Identity Card.

Maga adjourned the case to January 30, 2014 for mention.
