APC Reels Out Plans For Members Registration

Nigeria’s main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, (APC), has reeled out plans for the registration of its members which will culminate into the conduct of congresses.

The party’s plan, released in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city on Saturday, is coming few days after the electoral commission released the time table for the 2015 general election.

The registration of the party members is expected to commence on February 10 and end on February 15.

According to the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the registration officers would ensure that at the end of the registration exercise, individuals’ data would be stored in the party’s data bank.

“All the information in the form will be compiled and put into the register and afterwards they will be compiled at the ward level, state level and Federal government level. At the end of the day it will be inputted into the data bank of the party. If you are not registered you will not participate in the congresses. You cannot have your man contest for any position.

“The delegates will be the ones that will elect the presidential candidate at the congress,” he said.

Mr Mohammed stressed that with the development, the party would be able to resolve the leadership issues that the party was facing across the states.

Speaking on the released modalities for the proposed National Conference, the party leader also emphasised that the APC still maintained its position on the conduct of the conference.

“We are worried that the convener, who all along has been against the idea, now turns around to call for it.

“The kind of national conference that we envisage is not the type that would be ratified by the National Assembly,” he said.
