Pastor, wife escape death from members over cow

Sunday, February 9, 2014 would have been a black day for the General Overseer of Tower of God Revival Ministry, Pastor Clement Nzekwesiri Nwankwo and his wife, Evangelist Helen. They escaped death by the whiskers from members of their own church.
The pastor and his wife, whom he married after the demise of his first wife (the late Elizabeth), happily went to church that fateful day, not knowing that danger was awaiting them. The church is located off Orlu Road, along Egbeada/Akwakuma in Owerri West Local
Government Area of Imo State.
The Sunday worship began with songs and praises to God. But trouble started towards the end of the service when one of the worshipers led a cow to the altar of God for thanksgiving.  The pastor and his wife did not know that it was a trap set to humiliate them.
When the service was over and majority of the church members had gone home, few committee members stayed back. A member of the church went to untie the cow, an action that attracted the attention of the pastor. As he attempted to ask where the cow was being taken to, three pastors he employed and the caucus members of the church descended on him, beating him and his wife black and red.
It was gathered that they continued beating them till the pastor fainted, even as his wife sustained serious injuries that temporarily incapacitated her.
When Sunday Trust visited the church premises, the building was under lock and key, but some people who spoke to our correspondent confirmed that there was a serious fight between the general overseer and his members.
Narrating their ordeal, the pastor said he was surprised at the action of the pastors. He said that out of the three pastors: Elvis Nwachukwu,  Ik. Nwogu and Victor Joseph, only the application of one had been confirmed for full employment while others were still under
probation.
Pastor Nzekwesiri wondered why his own members wanted to kill him and take over the church. He further revealed that because of the
lingering squabbles he had with the members, he was advised to stay away from conducting the church activities, hence, the pastors collect the offerings of the church; and he does not ask questions, just to avoid trouble.
He recalled that members of his church started behaving strangely after the death of his first wife, adding that his battered wife had been lying critically ill in the hospital. He also denied being suspended as alleged by members, wondering who would be able to suspend the founder of a church.
When contacted, Pastor Elvis Nwachukwu alleged that the  general overseer had been on suspension for the past few months, wondering why he would not wait till things were sorted out before attempting to take away the cow offered for thanksgiving.
