MEMBER, House of Representatives and Labour Party’s sole aspirant for the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti State, Opeyemi Bamidele, has described Governor Kayode Fayemi’s second term bid as “an attempt to further loot the resources of the state.”
Bamidele alleged that the Fayemi administration had squandered not less than N400bn since 2012 and urged the people to put a stop to government wastage in the state.
In a statement on Sunday by his media assistant, Ahmed Salami, Bamidele said that Fayemi, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, was desperate to win re-election.
The statement read, “The arrest of two LP members by the Federal Anti-Robbery Squad last Monday in Iyin Ekiti in connection with a phantom allegation and declaration of eight others wanted, smacked of desperation on the part of the APC-led government in Ekiti.
“The Fayemi government has wasted over N400bn that has accrued to the state in the last 42 months. I urge the people of the state to frustrate attempt by enemies of the people to ruin the future of the state by their self-seeking venture.”
Bamidele challenged Fayemi to respond to allegations that he siphoned public resources in the guise of implementing government projects.
He listed the projects through which the governor had allegedly siphoned the state resources to include the new Governor’s office, the state pavilion, and the Funmi Olayinka Cancer and Wellness Centre, amongst others.”
Most disheartening is the hypocrisy displayed by Fayemi over the Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki Road. He criticised his predecessor, Chief Segun Oni, when he awarded the road at the cost of about N6.5bn, which the present government had now jacked up to over N11bn.
“Fayemi must tell Ekiti what facilities he had added to the road to warrant the astronomic increase in the contract sum,” he said.
The lawmaker admonished everyone vying for the position of the governor in the state to keep to their word by focusing on issues rather than personalities.
Bamidele urged Ekiti people to liberate themselves from bad governance, saying that there was no need for any politician to be desperate if the motive was to serve the people.
