Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Monday denied allegations that his government was involved in the murders that occurred at Soka, Oluyole Local Government Area.
Mr. Ajimobi, addressing residents of the area, said his administration had nothing to do with the killing.
A slaughter house containing about 25 decomposing bodies was discovered at Soka-Ibadan on Saturday. About 10 barely-alive people were also found, many of whom said they had been held captive for about a year.
The governor, who accused the residents of not reporting the matter to the police when they noticed strange movements of the criminals, however, promised to develop the area.
In a swift reaction, a resident of the area, Alade Coker, told the governor that when they noticed strange developments in the place they reported the matter to the police.
He said “we were told that it was Ajimobi’s government that dumped lunatics there’’.
The governor denied being responsible for the dumping of lunatics in the area, he said “the place was established 10 years ago and I have not spent four years’’.
Mr. Ajimobi promised to revoke the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of the owners of the Underground Cell at Soka.
He said “government will find out owners of the land and if it was allocated to anyone, then the C of O will be revoked.
“But if otherwise, the government will impound the land for development purpose.”
Mr. Ajimobi said he came to mourn with the victims of the dastardly acts, and promised to fish out the killers at all cost.
“Government will send investigators and intelligence agents to come and dig the place with a view to unravel facts about the killings.
“I want about four to five representatives of the community to come out and help the investigators with facts about how to get to the root of the matter.
“Anybody with any serious information should submit it to the Baale’s Palace or bring it to my office,” he said.
The governor went to the place with the Police, SSS, Civil Defence and Army.
A member of the community, Olori Olatunji, replied that they reported the matter to the police stations at both Soka and Toll-Gate, saying “there was no serious response from them”.
Mr. Olatunji called on the governor to investigate the involvement of the police in the matter with a view to get to the root of the matter.
The Baale of Soka, Siaka Bello, urged the governor to find the killers and provide amenities for the area.
“We don’t have any social amenities here and I want the governor to help us, so that the place can be developed forthwith,” Mr. Bello said.
