Kinsmen of the Minister of Informantion, Mr. Labaran Maku, have accused him of mobilising youths in his electoral ward, Wakama, to unleash terror on voters, especially supporters of the APC who turned out to vote.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP shortly after receiving treatment at the Akwanga General Hospital, one of the victims, Mr John Nabasu, said youths allegedly sponsored by Mr. Maku “stormed out polling station opposite Our Lady Of Apostle (OLA) secondary school, snatched the ballot papers and started multiple thumb printing and when we (APC
supporters) resisted we were beaten up by the thugs.”

He said in Wakama Tudun polling Unit, Alashe, and Wakama Clinic polling unit, were the minister voted, the same scenario played out and voters were not allowed to exercise their franchise as thugs snatched ballot boxes and took their time to thumb print the ballots.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged the winner so far, winning 6 local governments  while its closest contender, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won 4 local governments with elections in 3 local government areas declared inconclusive.

Addressing journalists in Lafia on the outcome of the election, the chairman of Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) Dr. Sallau Modibbo, said based on the results submitted by the returning officers, the APC has won in Doma, Lafia, Wamba, Karu, Awe, Toto, while the PDP won in Keffi, Nasarawa Eggon, Kokona and Keana.

Elections in Nasarawa, Obi and Akwanga local government areas were declared inconclusive due to some electoral irregularities.

In Akwanga local government area, where the deputy governor who recently defected to the PDP hails from, results of 4 council wards were cancelled due reasons ranging from coercion of electoral officials to falsify results to disappearance of returning officers.

Drama, however, ensued Sunday afternoon when the local government returning officers for Lafia, Doma,Obi and Nasarawa local government areas vanished into thin air while the results in the respective areas were being collated.

Addressing the press over the development at the PDP party secretariat in Lafia, yesterday, the chairman of the party, Chief Yunana K. Iliya, said “we are in a very strange situation where people turned out to vote, collated results at the unit but could not get them announced at the ward and local government centres as directed by NASIEC which is a clear breach of Nasarawa State Election Law, 2012, as amended.

At the press parley which was attended by Senators Solomon Ewuga, Suleiman Adokwe among other high ranking members of the party, Chief Iliya warned that “any attempt to announce falsely doctor figures will be met with the requisite power of the people.”
