The parish priest in in charge of Saint Robert Catholic Church, Gbem-Tsambe in Vandeikya Local government area of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Gregory Ugah yesterday explained how the church guards foiled an attempt by a suspected terrorist to bomb the place when the congregation were going on with Easter activities.
LEADERSHIP gathered that some heavily armed terrorists suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, weekend, stormed the Catholic church with arms and substances believed to be chemical weapon to kill the worshippers. The situation caused confusion and many worshippers were reportedly injured.
More than 3,000 worshippers had gathered at the church yard to commence celebration of the Easter vigil when the suspected terrorists made a surprise incursion into the place and the church guards accosted them.
It was learnt that one of the insurgents had branched at a local market located beside the church and approached a woman selling food in the market with a pretence to eat but the woman did not understand the language he spoke and requested the assistance of an interpreter who during interrogation later discovered that the suspect was a Fulani herdsman.
