Coach Stephen Keshi has disclosed that inviting a 35-man squad for Nigeria’s World Cup preparations will be unproductive.
With less than two months to the commencement of the quadrennial football showpiece, the former national team skipper insists that he would only call on a few players that will make the country proud.
“I don’t know where these stories of 35 players are coming from,” Keshi told KickOffNigeria.com
“I have less than three weeks to prepare for the World Cup and so we need to be serious because of the limited time at our disposal.
“I will only invite those who will give us what we need and I intend to make the list available at the right time,” he concluded.
Nigeria’s first game is against Iran in Curitiba on June 16 before facing Bosnia-Herzegovina and Argentina in Group F of the competition.
Another stakeholder described the recent suspension of El-Kanemi matches in Maiduguri by the LMC because of insecurity as a rush decision which is counterproductive to football development.
The defunct stakeholders’ committee member of El-Kanemi Warriors, Alhaji Maliki Mohammed also described the suspension of matches in Maiduguri as an attempt to deprive them of their fundamental rights to socialize and watch football like other Nigerians.
He said: “Our detractors are at work and LMC should not listen to their false alarm on the situation that is under control. What you read on the pages of newspapers about Maiduguri is different from what is happening on ground. We are trying to encourage our local league by watching El-Kanemi Warriors at the Warriors Sports Centre, but your suspension have forced me to go to El-Kanemi Warriors Sports Centre to watch Real Madrid against Barcelona at 9.00pm. We are Nigerians please don’t punish us by refusing people of Borno the chance to watch Nigerian premier league under the beautiful organisation of the LMC.” He cried.
A founding member of the El-Kanemi supporters club, Mallam Bashir Mohammed said: “The organising bodies for Nigerian football should intervene and do justice to our case. Maiduguri is now safe. We are cool down here.”
