Indigenes of the FCT, under the auspices of Original Inhabitants Development Association (OIDA) and Greater Gbagyi Development Initiatives (GG-DIN), have berated the territory’s minister, Senator Bala Mohammed over his recent threat to them and their traditional rulers, saying his threats will not deter them from demanding their rights.

This is just as the indigenous associations, in separate statements, faulted comments attributed to him, saying they are lawless despite his smooth relationship with the.

OIDA in a statement by its media adviser, Shagari Sambo said if the minister’s claim of a smooth relationship was true, there would have been no need for indigenous women to block the expressway to protest planned demolition of their communities.

The indigenes who described the minister’s comments as undemocratic, advised him to concentrate on the nfrastructural and developmental challenges facing indigenous communities and Nigerians resident in Abuja rather than threatening people campaigning for their constitutional rights in the nation’s capital.

Similarly, National Coordinator of GG-DIN, Prince Gimba Gbaiza, swho was summoned to the FCT Police Command because of the protest, in a press briefing, who also dismissed the threats, alleged that the organisation, a duly registered one had sought audience with the  FCT administration over the concerns of its people but had been given no opportunity to express its concerns.

“The aim of GG-DIN is to educate our people on their rights as indigenes of the FCT. So, we are asking our political office holders to tell the public if they have one day given us audience in our efforts to solve the lingering problems of the FCT people.  We have written to them countless number of times but none of them cares,” he added.
