I expected my removal — Abdullahi

Former Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, on Saturday said he was not surprised when he was sacked by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Abdullahi, who said this on Saturday during a reception in Ilorin, added that he expected his removal from office.

“The day you (public officials) are appointed, you should always expect that you will leave some day. You can be appointed today and removed tomorrow. What matters is not how long you have stayed but what you were able to do. I have nothing but joy and gratitude to Almighty God for the opportunity I had to serve and what God made possible for me to achieve within the time I was minister.

“If you are occupying a position and you don’t expect that you can be removed any day, then you are probably not being realistic. As a minister, I have always expected my last day. So, I wasn’t shocked.”

He lauded a former Governor of Kwara State, Sen. Bukola Saraki; Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed; the state House of Assembly Speaker, Razak Atunwa; and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, for their contributions to the development of the state.

Abdullahi also said Nigerian youths are gifted and determined, adding that they could make positive impact on the society if given the opportunity.

“We, who were born towards the end and after the Nigerian civil war make the generation that is mostly here today. That is the generation that I belong to and what we have done in the last three years has shown that our generation, given the opportunity, is capable of achieving great things,” he said.

The state governor urged public servants and political appointees to discharge their responsibilities creditably and with fear of God.

Ahmed stated that they should work towards the improvement of the society. He said he was not surprised at Abdullahi’s achievements. He added that Kwara State residents were proud of the achievements of the former sports minister.
