The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, says a former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, will be instrumental in making sure that the party wins elections in 2015.
Nwanyanwu stated this when he received the former governor of the state and some chieftains of the party at the Labour Party national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.
He said Daniel would play a pivotal role in the repositioning of the party in the state and urged all members of the party to work with him.
He said it would be difficult to say a former governor of the state was not important to the party.
He said, “When we have people like you(Daniel), the devil will want to cause trouble and I must say that the party has come to some reasons and we have arrived at some decisions concerning the party in the state.
“We cannot say someone who has served for eight years as a governor should just go like that. His suspension was as a result of people who are afraid of his presence in the party.
“Daniel is the leader of the party in Ogun State and we have asked him to use what he has to ensure we have victory in the state in 2015.”
Nwanyawu later handed over the party’s identity card to the former governor and asked him to use his wealth of experience to build the party in the state.
Daniel, who came with some of his supporters such as a former Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Sarafa Ishoa, a former Commissioner for Information, Mr. Sina Kawonise; and former governorship candidate of the Peoples Party of Nigeria in Ogun State, Alhaji Gboyega Isiaka, promised to rebuild the party.
He added that with the calibre of people in the party, it would be easier to win the governorship election in the state in 2015.
Meanwhile, the party will on Thursday (today) receive a member of the House of Representatives from Ekiti State, Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele to its fold.
Bamidele, a former member of the APC, defected from the party to the LP where has said he was going to pursue his governorship ambition.
