National Assembly asks GEJ to respond to OBJ

The National Assembly has called on the president, Goodluck Jonathan, to address the controversy surrounding a letter written to him by former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.
Obasanjo Jonathan rifeThe House is of the opinion that failure of the president to respond to the issues raised by the former president in the letter may generate rife across the country.
Senator Ita Enang, chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, said that to avoid unnecessary tension, Jonathan should address the issues raised by Obasanjo in the letter without further delays.
“The letter by Obasanjo touches on national security and all the issues raised therein cannot be ignored. President Jonathan has a duty of taking the issues raised in the letter, one after the other and explaining his side of the story to Nigerians,” Enang said.
With speculation making the rounds that the House of Representatives would, this week, raise a motion on the letter, Enang said that, it would be difficult for the lawmakers to take a position without a response from the president.
“As it is, no legislative action can be taken unless the issue had been raised as a motion after appropriate responses had been made by the presidency in reaction to the allegation,” he said.
Minority Whip and prominent leader of the opposition in the Senate, Senator Ganiyu Solomon, in his reaction said, “all issues raised are very sensitive and germane. The Presidency cannot just dismiss the letter just like that. They should give full explanation. It is not a beer parlour talk”
Also reacting, the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Zakari Mohammed, affirmed that the former President had vindicated the House in the letter.
He said that the House had lived up to its expectation in the fight against corruption, as evident in the various cases it had investigated.
