The All Progressives Congress on Tuesday announced the engagement of an international political consulting firm, AKPD Message and Media, “to boost its electoral chances in the upcoming elections.”

This was contained in a statement by the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

The party said the United States firm had a strong reputation for supporting leading populist movements across the globe.

It noted that the firm was best known for its leading role in President Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2012.

The APC statement partly reads, “As a party destined to bring change and succour to all Nigerians, the APC is proud and excited to work with one of the foremost exponents of change in the world.

“AKPD Message and Media has worked with key Democratic Party candidates throughout the US, with a reputation for supporting leading populist movements across the globe.’’

The APC also claimed that it had worked in partnership with the firm over the past few months, adding that it shall leverage on its skill, experience and expertise throughout the upcoming campaign cycle.

It said that the company’s track record could be seen in political climates similar to Nigeria’s, including in Kenya, Tanzania and Ghana.

According to the party, the partnership with the firm was an indication that the process of change in Nigeria had already begun and would not be stopped.

Meanwhile, the APC in Ekiti State says it registered no fewer than 226,527 members during the party’s membership registration.

The party had earlier projected registering at least 100,000 members.

The APC, in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on Tuesday by its state Chairman, Chief Jide Awe, said it recorded the highest number of members in Ado Ekiti Local Government, where it got a total of 30,070 people.

It put the number of registered members in Oye Ekiti at 23,130; Ekiti Southwest, 19,972;  Ijero, 16,379; Ikole, 16, 294; Ekiti West 16,020; Irepodun/Ifelodun, 15,389; Ido/Osi, 13,100; and Gbonyin, 12,656.

Others are Moba, 11,028; Ikere, 10,568; Ekiti East, 10,070; Ise/Orun, 9,586 and Efon, 8,594; Emure, 8,156; and Ilejemeje, 5,515.

The party denied the rumour that it coerced civil servants in the state to register as members, saying it was the imagination of the opposition political parties in the state.

It said, “Our party has no such intention. APC attracted the large turnout because of its popularity as well as the trust in the good work of the Kayode Fayemi-led administration.”
