Ekiti: PDP leadership upholds Fayose’s nomination

Mr. Ayo Fayose

The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday upheld the outcome of the Ekiti State governorship primaries, which was conducted on Saturday in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
The primaries produced a former Governor of the state, Mr. Ayo Fayose, as the party’s candidate for the June governorship election in the state.
A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, said after thorough consideration of the report of the governorship primaries it received, the party had approved the result and upheld the nomination of Fayose as the candidate of the PDP for the election.

Metuh said, “The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party  has received the report of the Ekiti State Governorship Primary
Electoral Committee. After thorough consideration of the report, the NWC approved the result and upheld the nomination of Ayo Fayose as the candidate of the PDP for the June 2014 governorship election in Ekiti state.
“The NWC commended the committee for the conduct of a peaceful and transparent exercise and urged all PDP members in the state, including
the other aspirants, to support the candidate of the party to ensure a successful outing at the governorship election.”

Thirteen out of the 14 aspirants contesting the ticket were clamouring for a consensus candidate, while Fayose insisted that there must be a primary to elect the party’s flag-bearer.
The former governor  won the primary with a wide margin on Saturday.
Reacting to the party’s position while speaking through his spokesman, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, Fayose appealed to those who lost to bury the hatchet and put the primary behind them and work with him for the party to win.

He vowed that he would deliver Ekiti State to the PDP.
