Delegates from the South-West in the ongoing National Conference on Sunday met behind closed doors in Abuja.

Our correspondents gathered that the meeting, which began at 8pm, was aimed at further marshalling positions of the zone on key  national issues such as resource control and fiscal federalism.

It was learnt that those, who were present at the meeting, would discuss what would be the response of the South-West to President Goodluck Jonathan’s inaugural speech at the conference on Monday.

The meeting was still going on as of the time of filing this report.

It was also gathered that the delegates would take a common position on the rules of the conference, which were released on Thursday.

A delegate from the zone, Mr. Yinka  Odumakin, confirmed that the meeting was being held, when he spoke with one of  our correspondents on the telephone.

He said, “We are going to discuss the President’s inaugural speech. We shall also discuss the rules of the conference as well as choose those who will lead the zone.”

Odumakin said that the media would be briefed on the outcome of the meeting on Monday (today).

Those, who had arrived at the meeting as of the time of sending this report included two leaders of Afenifere, Sir. Olaniwun Ajayi and Chief Ayo Adebanjo as well  as a former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Alani Akinrinade (retd.)
